If you are a fan of action RPG, you probably have at least heard about Piranha Bytes. The German developer is famous for Gothic and Risen franchises. The two series have the reputation of being Jacky and a little disordered, but also of a kind of endearing ambition. Gothic and Risen are both fantastic Hack and Slash medieval games that take place in testicular open worlds filled with magic and monsters.
Gothic came out in 2001. He really defined the model for other games. Although they share some characteristics of RPG titles like Skyrim or Fallout, the Piranha Bytes games are often very difficult. It takes a lot of time to the characters to rise level and have access to good weapons and good powers. Whatever the framework, they also tend to share history rhythms.
In 2017, Piranha Bytes came out Alex, who moved the same basic gameplay in the future. Like the other games of Piranha Bytes, Alex was a bit broken, but very fun. There was both magical spells and firearms, craftsmanship, a lot of booty and a very big world to explore. In March 2022, the developer will publish Alex 2, a direct sequence of the first game. I had the chance to play a little at the next RPG. Spoiler: I had a good time.
The original Alex was the history of the Catalan land planet. After Catalan is almost destroyed by a comet, the survivors form factions. A byproduct of the comet, Alex is a mysterious resource, and each faction uses it differently. The Berserkers use ALEX for magic, while outlaws make weapons and clerics are religious fanatics. You play Tax, who is an ALB. The ALBS are the enemy of all and consume directly ALEX. This makes the ALBS physically strong but at the cost of their emotions. ALEX — The game — had his hero at war with his identity as an ALB and several possible purposes. ALEX 2 takes history some time after the first match events.
Once again, the Tax head man starts the game with almost nothing but a broken pipe section for a weapon and basic equipment. As in the first game, it has a jetpack to help it reach the vertical spaces. This time, it starts in the middle of a family drama, trying to locate his wife and child, who went to something else. After removal tense, Tax and his wife make teaming up to meet an important NPC of the original game, and the story begins for good.
Some factions and enemies come back, with new added to the mixture. Once again, history promises a lot of conflicts between factions and personal choices in the way TAX refers to others. Some dialogue choices will open or close different rhythms and paths of history.
Alex took place in an open world pretty impressive visually, with many diverse biomes. There were a lot of animals and plants to kill and pick up, and colonies and enemies full of booty. Located on the same planet as Catalan, Alex 2 seems significantly clearer, more detailed and just closer to current standards. As is so often the case, the NPCs remain most of the time to do nothing until they are talking to them. For a post-apocalyptic world, Catalan is quite luxuriant and invaded by vegetation. It is an interesting and dangerous world to explore.
Like his older brother, Alex 2 has a little harm with respect to faces and labial synchronization. It's an improvement over the first game, but not as much as you honest. Some faces — the young son of Tax, DEX, for example — are encouraging nightmare. ALEX 2 also struggles to move smoothly, whether they are animations of characters, body bodies or wind staled by the wind. While the exit is planned in several months, the Jacky movement was also part of the first game. In a way, it was part of what made Alex charming and helped to attract a worship. But we are almost 2022 and there are a lot of games that do much better animations, labial synchronization and movement. Nevertheless, I am happy to leave a little soft to the team until we see the final match.
As the first game, Alex 2 has a lot of dialogue played with competence. Sometimes, what you say makes a difference, but often, you just have to browse all the lines before moving on to something else. ALEX had a story and interesting characters. I suspect that the continuation does it too.
I appreciate that, although it is firmly in the tradition of the RPGs in open world, Alex 2 has some ambition and is not afraid to be a little obtuse and difficult. If you can ignore, or even kiss, its lack of AAA polishing, Alex 2 RPG mechanics is solid, and its world is worth exploring. ALEX 2, as the first game, has a lot of character. I can not wait to play the full game when he released March 1, 2022. For incredible videos, go to our YouTube page here. Follow us on Twitter here. Our Facebook page here. Our Instagram page here.
